A Necessary Peace Talk

How would the people agree with Assad? Middle East people tend to be all about an eye for an eye and Assad has killed hundreds of thousands in the cruelest ways. He'll never be able to rule the country with any effectiveness after the past events. Even if there is a cease fire, his head will always have a price tag on it and if anyone can hold a grudge it's the family of people needlessly killed. I can't think of anything that will work except for him agreeing to hand over power to the FSA or agreeing to hold elections (democracy) as he leaves and is granted immunity somewhere. I don't even think he can leave due to the war crimes he's going to be charged with eventually. So that may not even be an option. He can't leave, he can't stay, what is he going to do? The fact that Syria used poison gas on its own people shows, painfully, that they have not reached civility. Syria is a menace to all surrounding countries.
