US calls China

After watching the US cut and run on two red lines in the sand (Iran and Syria), the Chinese were emboldened to extend their air defenses well into international waters - over disputed islands. The response by the Japanese, South Koreans and the US was predictable: test the resolve of the Chinese by flying war planes inside the defense zone. The Chinese did the same idiotic thing as Obama in Syria by backing themselves into a corner. How remarkably stupid was that call by the Chinese leader? I say give it to the Chinese... it is pretty close to China and a lot further away from Japan. However, after that the communists need to quit molesting the rest of Asia for demands to their water for fishing and natural resources. It is called give and take

Snowden revelations prompt UN investigation into surveillance

I don't think anything the Guardian or the New York Times (etc.) have published with regards to Snowden or WikiLeaks has in any way compromised national or international security. It may have caused political embarassment. It may have disclosed events that people suspected (discussed by some/many, voiced and subsequently rejected as untrue by official sources). The public need some enlightening amusement in these times of austerity. This would be downright irresponsible: I'd rather have them do their research first and make sure no sensible information is published, than have it all out without any proper care. Besides, it seems that's how Snowden wanted the info to be released anyway...nonsense, either the press is free and independent or it is not, why should the press be concerned with the operational security of the security services, it is not their concern. the press did not steal this information, the security services failed to protect this information, spying is a risky business, if exposure causes operational harm, or harm to agents for that matter, that is a issue for those that failed to protect this information, if it was so important. it is just another one of those great swindles that the press is coerced into protecting the security services, and in some cases, the security services of a foreign state over the interests of the public. sunlight is the best disinfectant, if they are allowed to operate with impunity with anonymity while conducting mass surveillance on everyone how will this ever end?

Around 200,000 Yemeni expatriate workers have returned from Saudi Arabia since June, according to estimates from the International Organization for Migration, amid a sharp escalation in deportations as Saudi authorities crack down on those breaking labour laws - developments that risk increasing poverty and destabilizing the transition in Yemen Relations between Yemen and its richer northern neighbour have often been tense, exemplified by perennial disputes over the location and policing of their shared 1,458km border. Saudi Arabia supported the now-defunct regime of Yemen’s ex-President Saleh in a civil conflict against Shi’ite Houthi rebels, a mutual enemy straddling the Yemeni-Saudi frontier. With little chance of employment in Yemen, both Abdul Salam and Radhwan are planning to be smuggled over the border soon to look for work - but this time they intend to avoid Saudi Arabia and travel east into Oman.

The Navy Yard shootings in September and unauthorized disclosures by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden have highlighted the need for changes to the current security clearance process, Stephen Lewis, deputy director for personnel, industrial and physical security policy in the office of undersecretary of defense for intelligence, told a Senate committee today. This includes DOD civilians, service members and embedded contractor personnel, he said.
“Under the National Industrial Security Program, cleared contractors are required to report adverse information coming to their attention regarding their cleared employees,” Lewis said.DOD component heads are responsible for establishing procedures to report significant derogatory information, unfavorable administrative actions and adverse actions related to personnel, Lewis said.
“In addition, the Defense Security Service is responsible for conducting oversight of companies cleared to perform on classified contracts for DOD and 26 other federal departments and agencies that use DOD industrial security services.” For several years, the department has partnered with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in reform efforts intended to improve the clearance process. As a result, Lewis said, in 2011 the Government Accountability Office removed DOD’s personnel security clearance program from its high-risk list (DOD website).

U.S. Department of Defense

Abortion

I am very liberal when it comes to social issues. I think abortion is great. The more people that we prevent from coming into this world the better. It's too bad we don't euthanize more people. However,  I have no issue with a capping the duration of a pregnancy in which an abortion can be performed. Many children are born at 7 months. The live happy, healthy lives. Not many children are born at 4 or 5 months. I can't believe there are liberals that are unhappy about having the choice to have an abortion... but just having to make the decision before the fetus is fully formed and can be considered an individual. This is their body, woman should just be able to pick up the phone, call their local abortion clinic and schedule a procedure. It should be that easy because it's their legal right. No one has the right to stop them from they want to do with their bodies. Birth control does fail and humans also fail. Everyone makes mistakes, therefore, no one should be forced to gestate and birth a pregnancy they never wanted.

A Necessary Peace Talk

How would the people agree with Assad? Middle East people tend to be all about an eye for an eye and Assad has killed hundreds of thousands in the cruelest ways. He'll never be able to rule the country with any effectiveness after the past events. Even if there is a cease fire, his head will always have a price tag on it and if anyone can hold a grudge it's the family of people needlessly killed. I can't think of anything that will work except for him agreeing to hand over power to the FSA or agreeing to hold elections (democracy) as he leaves and is granted immunity somewhere. I don't even think he can leave due to the war crimes he's going to be charged with eventually. So that may not even be an option. He can't leave, he can't stay, what is he going to do? The fact that Syria used poison gas on its own people shows, painfully, that they have not reached civility. Syria is a menace to all surrounding countries.

Government out of Service

 Government Shutdown

“The US government entered a state of suspended animation on 1 October after Congress failed to agree on a budget for the next fiscal year, causing federal agencies — including those overseeing science policy and research — to shut down indefinitely” (Nature) The governemnt shutdown for some people is not a big deal. Many services will continue, and that’s what all people want. One of the reasons of why elite people do not agree with this shutdown is because they fear that society will realize that they can function just fine, and in fact, better by not being encumbered by a government. In my opinion, I'm all for letting all the six figures salaried that government workers who think they are untouchable get a dose of reality and lose a little of their fat checks. As I learned today in government class, members of the U.S. Congress get too much compared to other governments. In conclusion, I think that this government shutdown will not only be a breath of fresh air but also a new start.

Is Technology affecting our life as humans?

Technology in our social life

I would like to say that technology doesn’t necessarily ruin our lives, but it definitely does make an impact on how we as human beings exploit our feelings and emotions during face to face conversations and in our social life, rather than text or instant messaging someone how you feel about them. In current days, almost all teenagers send more than fifty texts per day. People are now more confident to say things through text messages than to have a face to face conversation. Some people argue that technology plays a positive role on society by providing an alternative to socially interact and form friendships online. There are very dangerous people on the Internet who are a very large threat to young people of all ages. The ability to access every little bit of known information about someone without knowing if they are acting in a malicious act is a possibility of being on the Internet. At the end, I personally think that technology destroys the quality of personal communication.

Gun Control

The Second amendment states that people have the right to bear arms. Still, many states are trying to implement gun control laws. Some of them want them to be banned completely and others agree to have the right to keep a gun. I feel that we should have the right to have a weapon for our own safety. Maybe the alternatives to gun control will take longer and require more effort and money to put into place than restricting guns and requiring universal background checks, but if President Obama really means what he says when he talks about how important it is to protect lives, he should be willing to do whatever it takes to protect U.S. citizens, and realize that more gun control will not protect the people he says he wants to protect. I believe that our country will become safer when more and more law abiding citizens are able to exercise their rights and obtain guns for their safety. If gun control laws are passed everyone will ignore them and continue trading guns as they always have. And the result of that will be everyone or most people who own a gun will be criminals.

Russian and Chinese Warning

Russia is warning that a U.S. strike on Syria’s atomic facilities might result in a nuclear catastrophe and is urging the U.N. to present a risk analysis of such a scenario. The warning comes from Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Alexander Lukashevich. He said in a statement Wednesday that a strike on any nuclear installations could contaminate the region with radioactivity. He also said that,  “The consequences could be catastrophic.” this quote that carefully uses the word "catastrophic" also was used by China who is in favor with Russia. In my opinion, There was no justification to intervene in the Syrian civil war until the apparent evidence of a chemical attack. The evidence for this is shaky with both sides accusing the other of using chemical weapons. The US should find out who developed and sold these weapons to the Syrians and put them in jail. I bet a lot of American, European, Russian and Chinese companies and government officials will be involved into the business. The weapon dealers of the world are the true problem facing mankind.!!

An opposed Action

By the time when my last post was created, the decision on Syria was still an unanswered question. Now the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government happened, about 1,500 people murdered. The Obama administration is now asking Congress for an approval to strike on Syria. Congress said that it won’t be easy to get the approval but on September 9 they are expecting to debate and vote on an authorization, but Obama said that “he would not rule out taking action immediately if Assad deploys chemical weapons before Congress is set to vote. “ This means that he is willing to take action without specific congressional authorization and even if the United Nations Security Council do not agree. If congress authorizes the action, it is the fault of congress; if congress refuses to authorize the action, Obama's will which if not acted upon, can be claimed to have been the best course has been overruled. Let us not lose sight of the fact that an almost unprecedented number of Americans are united in opposing this action.

US Forces Move Closer to Syria

As we all know the United States Military always want to act as the “worldwide police.” America's wars have always been in foreign countries, and with no reason of involvement. As examples we have China, Russia and the EU who also have the hardware to intervene and great military forces.  Yet ONLY the US is wringing its hands and asking if it should be doing more.  The rest of the world looks on with complete indifference while pretending interest by loudly shouting "someone should do something" and by saying that someone should do something they basically mean, let the US take care of it. It doesn’t matter to Obama that chemical weapons were used to gas children by a psychopathic ruler who has been using barbaric tortures on children.  What matters to him is that he gets permission from Russia and China and the press and the polls to do what is right and decent.  In my opinion, and I’m sure that many of you think the same, I think that the US should avoid this intervention with Syria. If there are many concerns about the nation’s currency, they should stop financing and spending the armed forces as much as they do, and invest in education and businesses to generate more jobs.
